YES to Higher Education
The YES (Youth Education Scholars) Program of the Silicon Valley Children’s Fund has successfully increased the number of foster youth in Santa Clara County who attend and complete college. YES engages a two-pronged approach of scholarship assistance and case management services.
Scholarships: YES Program participants are full time students at a community college, university, or accredited vocational program or trade school. Applicants first apply for federal and state aid through FAFSA. YES scholarships are determined based on their unmet financial need. YES College Scholars may reapply for up to 5 years of support if they meet specific standards of progress toward graduation.
Case Management: We provide workshops and referrals for academic and financial assistance, life-skills training, leadership development, connections to health/mental health services on campus and beyond, employment connections and career opportunities to youth.
The YES Program has grown from 9 students enrolled in 2000 to 94 full time college scholars in 2011-2012.
